the curse

josh ritter has long been a favourite of mine.  this video for his song, "the curse" from his recent album so runs the world away, is so perfectly romantic.

shaded view

really, really like this.  i wear something like this occasionally (read: all the time.  the only thing i seem to be finding in my closet these days are sweaters and black jeans)  i tend to replace the heels with riding boots though.  (i'd like to wear the shoes of course, but it's getting a bit chilly for that.  and maybe a bit impractical for my daily trek to the library.)

volver

last night i saw volver for the first time (which really is a crime...i should have seen it back in 2006 when it came out).  it was amazing.  all of the actresses were remarkable, especially penelope cruz, who is somehow even better than usual, working in her native language, country, and with pedro almodovar.  i have spent the semester studying his films, and this is my favourite by far.  be prepared to cry.  i didn't watch it with my mother, but if i had i have a feeling we'd both have be in hysterics throughout the last half.
(for added relevance, cruz's costumes in the film are quite something: cardigans, pencil skirts, both in a variety of patterns, and lots of cleavage.)
