I'M BAAAAACK

I've been away for sooooo looooong and I've missed you!!  My apologies, I've been off spring breaking with friends for our proverbial "grad trip" and in doing so I've missed waaaaay too much of Fashion Month.  Hours have been, and have yet to be, spent on Style.com catching up on all the shows.  Expect regular coverage from now on; I'm coming into the last six weeks of my university career and I'm trying to live up every single day.  It's my hope that my new resolve will be reflected here.

graphic life

Stephen Sprouse was an incredibly talented designer who was able to straddle the seemingly opposing worlds of labels like Bill Blass and Halston and the downtown punk scene of the late 70s and 80s with his innovative art and design that had both poles clamouring for his goods.  The above drawings, along with a number of others, are currently exhibited in a show called Jet Boy (the title of a New York Dolls song) in NYC's East Village.  These sketches alone make me want to wear the clothes and rub shoulders with Sprouse's dynamic crowd (spot Andy Warhol, Debbie Harry, Patti Smith, and more than a few others: they were the original scenesters).

swag

I think I would get on pretty well with Karl.  And this has nothing to do with the fact that he designs Chanel.  (Also, the above is sourced from a sa-weet blog a friend of mine showed me...check it out.  It's the definition of swag.)

zonoscope

I'm really feeling the cover art for Cut/Copy's new album.  The music's not half bad either (i.e. put it on regular/singular rotation).

year of the hare

In a year of all things rabbit, I'm currently obsessed with this piece, the base of which is actually a school ring (how sick is that?).  It's available at Jonathan and Olivia in Toronto, a sound fashion reason for an overdue visit home.

has fab taste in clothes

The above is a love letter written by punk rockstar Sid Vicious for his girlfriend Nancy Spungen.  Although it is sweet and romantic, it should be noted that in the same year this list was penned, Nancy was stabbed to death, and Sid, who was suspected of the murder, died of a heroine overdose before the trial.  Nevertheless, this little note is a bit of a reminder to non-romantics like me that love doesn't have to be Valentines Day-cheesy.

hollywood edition

Okay, so I really need to slow down with all the videos, but I had to post this.  Nobody does unadulterated Hollywood glamour quite like Vanity Fair.  And Rashida Jones's Tom Ford gown speaks to that glamour perfectly.  So watch: actors, they speak!

surreal

French designer Vanessa Bruno goes for some tribal surrealism in her video campaign starring muse Lou Doillon and actress/socialite Jessica Joffe.  I can get behind this.

diy

Rag & Bone sent Edita Vilkeviciute, Sasha Pivovrova, Abbey Lee Kershaw, and Lily Aldridge off with cameras to take pictures of themselves for a guerilla ad campaign.  the posters are all over the internet at this point.  here's the video...oh, to be paid to be beautiful.

lookbook

Zara has got to be my favourite high street brand--their spring look book is out and they're following the minimalist spring trend, which i love.  out with the florals and pastels of last year, in with clean lines and saturated colours.

styled for warmth

some runway shots from the Tiger of Sweden show at Stockholm Fashion Week.  nothing less than luxurious warmth, i think those of us currently suffering through a very cold winter could take a cue from the Swedes when it comes to dressing for the season in style.  i've been lucky enough to visit Stockholm in the dead of winter, and everyone still looks impossibly cool (and i'm not referring to temperature here).

lie with me

gaah!!  that guttural sound is supposed to emote that i need to get the hell out of dodge (the frozen tundra of Montreal) and find some nice palm trees and a lounge chair in the sun.  Behati Prinsloo is shot here by Mariano Vivanco for Vogue Turkey.  where ever she is, i'd like to join her...and steal her clothes (especially the Celine).

just cheap

a few of the images from Cheap Monday's spring/summer look book.  the faded jeggings aren't really my thing, but everything else is more than welcome in my closet: colour-blocking, safety-pinned jeans, and t-shirts i can share (or wear) with a friend!  but mostly i need a serious pedicure so that i can wear those clear boots...WOW!
